How to Begin to Play the Saxophone
The E-flat alto saxophone and the B-flat tenor saxophone are the most common instruments in the sax family for beginners. The alto sax is a bit smaller in size and often the one chosen by younger students due to its ease of transport.

    Steps:
    1.
Roll your lower lip slightly over your lower teeth.

    2.
Place 1/2 inch of the mouthpiece into your mouth, resting the reed on your lower lip. Your teeth should touch the top of the mouthpiece.

    3.
Close and seal the corners of your lips.

    4.
Press the first key using your left hand - there's no thumb on the octave key yet.

    5.
Blow a steady stream of air through the mouthpiece, gradually applying pressure against the reed. When the reed begins to vibrate, it will generate a sound, which is the third-line B on the treble clef.

    6.

Use your entire air supply while maintaining steady pressure with your diaphragm and embouchure to produce a long pleasing tone that doesn't waver in pitch.

    7.
Touch the reed with your tongue. Pull your tongue back and release a stream of air.

    8.
"Tongue" the reed like this four times in a row.

    9.
Close the second key with your left hand and play four tones. This note is the second-space A on the treble clef.

    10.
Add the third key to get the G tone on the second line of the treble clef.

    Tips:
Try three notes in a row: First finger B, second finger A, then third finger G. Play them evenly, and you've played "Three Blind Mice".

Don't worry about mistakes. Practice daily, and your tone control will improve.

Use the best reeds for performances and buy a good reed container to fit into the sax case.

    Invest in a reed trimmer.

    Warnings:
Keep the saxophone from touching your hand in the channel formed between your right thumb and right index finger.

Be careful where you place the instrument when not playing it. If laid across the chair you sat on, the reed is easily broken. Use your mouthpiece cap.

Don't let anyone touch or play your instrument. Repair work is expensive.
      -->

When to move up to a thicker reed by Jemie G.If you think your reed might be too soft for you, you should probably move a half a size up. To tell if you should move up, check how in tune you are. If you are always playing very sharp, your reed may be soft. Also, if you suddenly started haveing trouble getting out certain notes, particularly higher notes, your reed is closing up and it may be time to move up.

Find a teacher by Mike A.Contrary to many of our distinguished contributors, I believe that finding a good teacher will save you lots of time in both the long and short run. It'll also make practicing fun, no matter how old you are.

Since nobodi is updating , i will write a story here.

A story about a pregnant lady ( more like a man) * you noe hu -

His young fingers were small and fine , his fingernails a bit like a brush tip, sharp but elegant. But this image of a graceful guy , full of colonge, destroyed . All because of his tummy. The big bulgy thing that seems to bulge from his already flabby chest and his groin seem to make an outstanding assurance of his weight - over the normal category that is. As he stumbled into the room, the cold rotting air inside seemed to make him shiver and so did his tummy - but the tummy did an extra movement- the bulging tummy flap like a wing, and wiggled like a worm, from his immense step, strong and heavy like a boulders dropping from the sky - one at a time. As he crouch to reach his bag, his tummy seem not to give way, giving him immense difficulty. As he tried squatting for easier reaching , i heard a sudden wicked sound . The sound was loud , colossal for an instance, in this already big but enclosed room, the sound vibrated and send many echos bouncing off the grey walls. The plastic-like sound so hard to describe ended him in a fall. As he fell and sat on the floor, grabbing his shoulder, the bone misplace , he whined. For that very moment, the poor old man who wasn't even handsome, sat there waiting for his slaves to come fetch him. As his slaves reach for his loose oversize shirt, they pulled him like pulling a carrot stuck to deep underground.

Finally he stood up, gave a disgusted look, not at us for once but for his rash movement of trying to pick up a bag too low for a pregnant lady like him to reach. He felt limited for once, limited in doing stuff but with that pimpled , moon-like face, hardly anyone could see the sulk he gave. As he shot his head up like a python, everyone freezed. I could see , imagine, like the room was a refrigerator , huge and empty but full of the coldness and bitterness the air-cons had gave. The atmosphere hung most desperately uncomfortably as he step one step at a time like a model - too bad he was overweight to be one. As he gave an angry look, and started to reach for the stick - the mighty old stick which created sound at a flick and paused the sound with another , innocently laid on the table , waiting for this evil master to command. But i heard another sound , louder and nearer coming from his the other shoulder. I watched pitifully as he gave an embarassing look as he had sprained both arms in a record of 5 mins. Wonderful was the audience as the slaves gave way and fetched him all his needs and tend to him while me and my fellow warriors smiled sheepishly and the pregnant lady who was handless for once. Glory flourished on that day, and how he walked out cowardly was true happiness,i watched and felt the wind blowing in as he walked out of the door, hands like a toy , bloodless but still moving, and his slaves asking for his acknowledgement of his condition, but still neglecting them. And for once the floor seemed to gleamed, the walls seemed to be filled with blessings and for once the slaves seemed to walk out of the door , sulking like never before.

    Yiyong.
